Changes to class registration dates

To accommodate the planned Upgrade cutover and Go Live periods in April, class registration timing is changing. Most registration periods will be held earlier than previously published (as noted below) to ensure students can successfully register for May, summer, and fall terms.

May/Summer
Fall
Crookston
  • 3/23-4/2 queued registration
  • 4/24 open enrollment
Duluth
  • 3/2
Morris
  • 3/18
Rochester
  • 3/9
Twin Cities
  • 3/9 for degree-seeking students
  • 5/1 open enrollment
Crookston
  • 3/23-4/2 queued registration
  • 4/24 open enrollment
Duluth
  • 3/16 Medicine & Pharmacy students
  • 3/23-4/3 queued registration
  • 4/23 open enrollment
Morris
  • 3/30-4/2 queued registration
  • 4/23 open enrollment
Rochester
  • 3/23-4/4 queued registration
    (including evenings & weekends)
  • 5/1 open enrollment
Twin Cities
  • 3/23-4/4 queued registration
    (including evenings & weekends)
  • 5/1 open enrollment

There will also be a change to how the registration queue will be created:
  • Stages will be defined based only on cumulative credit total (completed and in-progress credits) only.
  • Stage definition will differ by campus. Details will be published on respective campus websites soon.
  • Students will then be randomized within those stages.
This is how the queue will be created once the Upgrade is complete, but due to the positive feedback received regarding this change, we were able to implement it now. For Twin Cities and Rochester students only, registration appointment times will extend into the evenings and weekends to accommodate a shortened timeframe.

Due to the random assignment of registration appointments to students within each defined stage, previously available tables of appointment times by student name will not be published. Students will be able to look up their registration appointment time using the “Your registration time” application for their campus.

Undergraduate students should expect an email with their registration appointment time approximately two weeks prior to the start of queued registration on their campus. There will also be additional communications to students alerting them to these changes starting as early as February 9.

Will the Upgrade change U Catalogs, course descriptions and the Course Guide?

After consulting at length with University stakeholders, the Upgrade’s Student Team decided that the Course Guide would be retired. Faculty, instructors, and their proxies will now be able to include URLs for additional information in the U Catalog course descriptions as a replacement. These catalogs and all academic offerings will still be publicly available in the University’s online catalogs. Find more information about these changes on The Upgrade Blog.

Class Schedule for summer and fall available February 10

The class schedule will be available to view on February 10. During queued registration, students will use our current registration system and suite of related registration tools (e.g., class search). Once the upgraded systems go live, open registration and changes to enrollment will be completed in the new registration system. Resources will be provided to advisers and students during that time to help them successfully navigate the new system.

New registration times and changes to queue

In order to ensure that students are able to successfully register for May, summer, and fall terms, registrations periods will be earlier:
  • May/summer registration for degree-seeking students will begin March 9
  • Fall queued registration will be March 23 through April 4
  • Open enrollment for both May/summer and fall terms will begin May 1

Students will start receiving their registration queue time emails approximately two weeks prior to the start of registration. This means holds must be placed on a student's record no later than Thursday, March 5.

A change to how the registration queue will be created will go into effect for fall 2015 registration. With the new queue, stages will be defined based on cumulative credit total (completed and in-progress credits only) and students will then be randomized within those stages. This is how the queue will be created once the Upgrade is complete, but based on positive feedback regarding this change, it will be implemented now. Additionally, in order to create registration appointments for all students in this shorter timeframe, appointment times will extend into the evenings and weekends. Students will receive additional communication about these changes in addition to the usual email with their registration time a few weeks before queue registration begins.
